Make a guest and babysitter card

Put who to call in an emergency on the wall, and give a babysitter or visitor a phone view with the address, contacts, alarm instructions and a Wi-Fi code you choose for them.

You’ll have

A Guest card block reading “Local emergency services · 112” on your kitchen dashboard, and a babysitter’s phone showing the card, with a button that shows the Wi-Fi QR code for a minute.

You’ll need

Follow these steps in your own Denframe. This website never connects to your household, your accounts or your devices, and never asks for your credentials.

  1. Set up the card

In Studio, open Sources, then Guest card, and choose Set up the guest card.

Keep or change Card title (it starts as Guest information). Enter Emergency label, such as Local emergency services, and Emergency number: the number for your country, like 112 or 911. Denframe doesn’t assume one. Set up card stays unavailable until both are filled.

Under Show on, tick the dashboards that should show the card. A dashboard that already holds 12 blocks is listed as full and can’t be ticked. Then choose Set up card.

  2. Add the address and contacts

The card’s page lists its parts as rows: Title, Emergency, Address, Contacts, Alarm instructions and Wi-Fi. Each has Change ▸, which opens a sheet with its own Save. Nothing on this page saves on its own.

    • Address: write it in Address (optional, sensitive), up to 300 characters. Turn on Show the address on household screens only if wall screens should show it too.
    • Contacts: choose + Add contact for each person, up to four, with a label such as Neighbor and a name and number. Turn on Show contacts on household screens to show them on the wall.

All card text is plain text. Markup and control characters are refused.

  3. Store the alarm instructions and Wi-Fi

Open Alarm instructions and write them in Alarm instructions (optional secret). Open Wi-Fi, choose WPA/WPA2/WPA3 or Open network under Security, then enter Network name (1–32 bytes) and, for a locked network, Password (8–63 bytes). Choose Save in each.

These two are secrets: once saved, they are never shown again, and the fields come back empty. Enter a value only to replace what is stored, or tick Remove stored alarm instructions or Remove stored Wi-Fi credentials to clear it.

Alarm instructions and Wi-Fi are kept in Denframe’s secret store, never in its ordinary settings. They never reach a wall screen, a Studio preview, diagnostics or an export, and only a guest’s phone you allowed can ask for them.

The ⋯ menu offers Export without secrets, which copies the card’s details with the secrets left out, and Delete card…, which removes the card and its stored secrets together.

  4. Choose what the wall shows

Every screen showing the card shows the emergency label and number. The address and contacts appear only when you turned on their switches, the dashboard’s Privacy is Household or Private, and privacy mode is off. The alarm instructions and Wi-Fi never appear on a screen.

To put the card on another dashboard later, use Add to a dashboard… under Showing on on the card’s page.

Linen: a household dashboard with an agenda, shopping list and weather forecast. Rendered by Denframe with sample data.
  5. Invite a guest or babysitter

In Studio, open Access. Under Guests & babysitters, choose Invite a guest.

On What should they see?, enter a Name for their phone. Under From the guest card, Emergency number is always on; turn on Home address, Contacts, Alarm instructions and Wi-Fi as you choose. A part the card doesn’t have yet says so, with Add to the card. Turn on Also show one person's tasks and pick under Whose tasks? if they should see one person’s tasks too.

The preview beside the choices shows what their phone will show. Choose Show the code to scan; they open the camera on their phone and open the link. The code works once, and the page moves on by itself when they are in. Copy link gives you the link to send instead.

A guest’s access is read-only and ends after a day. To end it sooner, choose End access now beside their name under Guests & babysitters.

  6. What the guest’s phone shows

Their phone shows the card under For guests and caregivers: the emergency number, which they can tap to call, then whatever you chose for them.

If you shared Wi-Fi, they choose Show Wi-Fi QR for 60 seconds when they need it. The code is made on the phone, hides itself after at most 60 seconds, and Hide now removes it at once.

Denframe can’t stop someone nearby, or a camera, from photographing a code while it is shown. Each request is recorded with who asked, when and whether it was allowed; the code and the card’s content are never recorded.

  7. Check the card

Look at a screen showing a dashboard you ticked: the Guest card block shows your emergency label and number, plus the address and contacts if you chose to show them.

On the guest’s phone, the card shows only the parts you picked for them. Under Guests & babysitters, their row shows how long their access has left.

If it doesn’t work

Set up card stays unavailable

Fill in both Emergency label and Emergency number; the card can’t exist without who to call.

A dashboard can’t be ticked under Show on

It already holds 12 blocks, the most a dashboard can. Remove a block from it, or choose another dashboard.

The address or contacts don’t appear on the wall

Turn on Show the address on household screens or Show contacts on household screens, set the dashboard’s Privacy to Household or Private, and turn privacy mode off.

The guest has no Wi-Fi button

The card needs Wi-Fi stored, and Wi-Fi must have been on when you invited them. Invite them again with it on.

A secure address comes first appears instead of a code

A phone can open a pairing link only when Denframe has a secure address. Set an https DENFRAME_MANAGEMENT_BASE_URL on the Denframe server, then make a new code.

A sheet reloads with your typing gone and says Updated somewhere else — reloaded

Someone else saved the card meanwhile. Denframe reloads what is stored and your unsaved typing is lost; enter your change again, including any secret you were typing.

The page says An obsolete secret is queued for automatic deletion retry.

Nothing to do: Denframe retries deleting the replaced secret on its own, at once, at startup and during maintenance.

A message under the card’s rows says a read failed

The secret rows read “Not set” until the card can be read. Choose Try again beside the message. If the stored secrets can’t be read, Denframe refuses rather than showing part of the card.
