Glossary
The words Denframe and its guides use, in plain language, each with the guide that shows it at work.
Host
The computer that runs Denframe: a Mac, a Windows PC or Home Assistant. It keeps your dashboards, sources and household data, fetches what the sources read, and serves dashboards to every screen. Screens show what the host serves, so when it sleeps or restarts they wait until it is back. See Install on macOS, Install on Windows or Install in Home Assistant.
LAN receiver access
The desktop app's setting that lets screens on your home network reach Denframe. It is off after installing, so Denframe accepts connections only from its own computer; screens can appear online but cannot load a dashboard. Turn it on from the Denframe icon with Enable LAN receiver access…. Screens then reach a desktop install on port 8001, while Studio stays on the computer itself. A Home Assistant install takes screens on port 8098. See Install on macOS.
Pairing
How a device that shows Denframe on its own, such as a TV or tablet browser or an Android wall panel, gets a sign-in of its own. The display shows a six-digit code, and an owner approves it in Studio → Access → Add a device. Each paired device can be signed out on its own. Chromecasts, Google TVs and Nest Hubs are not paired: Denframe finds them on the network. See Show Denframe in a TV's web browser and Remove, re-pair or replace a screen.
Block
One tile on a dashboard: a clock, a calendar, the weather, a picture, a list. A block reads a source for what it shows. A dashboard holds up to 12 blocks on a grid of 12 columns by 6 rows in landscape. See Add and arrange blocks on the grid.
Look
How a dashboard is dressed: its type and colours, chosen in the editor's Look group; spacing, surfaces and the background have groups of their own beside it. Denframe includes some looks and the library has more, and you can adjust a look's colours and put a background behind it. See Choose a look, colours and background.
Layout
A ready arrangement of blocks to start a dashboard from: the cards under What should this screen do? when you make a dashboard, and the Layouts shelf in the Library. Once made, the dashboard is yours to change: add, move and remove blocks as on any other. See Create your first dashboard.
Source
Where a block's information comes from: a calendar, a weather location, headlines, a watchlist, Home Assistant, or Denframe's own lists. Sources live in Studio → Sources. One source can feed blocks on many dashboards, and removing it leaves those blocks with nothing to show. See Remove a source or disconnect an account.
Playlist
Several dashboards that take turns on a screen. Schedules choose which playlist plays at each time of day. A paired TV browser or Android panel can rotate one; a Cast screen shows one dashboard at a time. See Rotate dashboards with playlists and schedules.
Audience
Who something is for. A note's or a Tasks block's Audience names people, and none means the whole household. A custom value's Audience is a sensitivity, such as Household. A dashboard's audience is the most private sensitivity its Privacy lets it show: Denframe never widens it for you. See Show tasks, chores and routines and Family notes.
Sensitivity
How private a piece of information is: Public, Household or Private. Each dashboard's Privacy and each screen's Profile maximum sensitivity cap what they show, and the stricter of the two wins, so a private event or value shows only where both allow Private. See Choose what a screen may show.
