Reconnect your screens after a new router or address
When a new router, a router reset or a changed lease gives the computer running Denframe a different network address, the screens that remembered the old one go quiet. Bring each kind back, then keep the address from changing again.
Every screen showing its dashboard again, and the computer running Denframe keeping one address from now on.
- An owner sign-in to Denframe, on the computer that runs it.
- Your router's settings page or app, to look up and reserve the computer's address. The router's manual says where they are.
- For an Android wall panel or a TV's browser, the device in front of you.
Follow these steps in your own Denframe. This website never connects to your household, your accounts or your devices, and never asks for your credentials.
Know how each screen finds Denframe
Screen How it finds Denframe After the address changes Chromecast, Google TV or Nest Hub Denframe finds it on the network and tells it the address to load each time it casts It comes back when Denframe casts to it again: nothing to pair A TV's or tablet's web browser You opened the computer's address in it, and the browser keeps the pairing for that address Open the new address and pair it again Android wall panel It remembers the address you connected it to, and its pairing with it It keeps trying the old address until the computer has it again, or you connect the panel again Studio itself is not affected: on the computer running Denframe it opens as before with Open Denframe from the Denframe icon, or from Home Assistant's sidebar.
Put everything back on the home network
If the new router has a different Wi-Fi name or password, each device joins it first: a Chromecast or Nest Hub through the Google Home app, a TV in its own network settings, and an Android panel from Display settings (hold its top-left corner for two seconds and enter its settings PIN), then Wi-Fi.
The computer running Denframe joins the same network as the screens, not a guest or isolated one. On Windows, a network the PC has not joined before can start as Public, which keeps screens out: make it Private in Windows Settings → Network & internet, in the connection's properties.
LAN receiver access is a setting of Denframe's, so it stays on through a network change.
Find the computer's new address
Look the address up on the computer, or in the router:
- On a Mac: System Settings → Network, choose the connection in use and open its details.
- On Windows: Settings → Network & internet, open the connection's properties and read its IPv4 address.
- On Home Assistant: Settings → System → Network.
- In the router: its list of connected devices, under the computer's name.
A home address looks like
192.168.1.23. Screens use it with the screen port:http://192.168.1.23:8001for a desktop install, or port 8098 on Home Assistant.Keep the address from changing
Most routers can always give one device the same address. It is usually called a DHCP reservation, an address reservation or a static lease, in the router's LAN or DHCP settings: choose the computer running Denframe from the connected devices and save. Then restart the computer, or turn its network off and on, so it takes the reserved address.
If the router lets you reserve the old address, do that: Android panels and TV browsers then reconnect by themselves with their pairings as they were, and Cast screens follow once Denframe casts to them again. Skip to Check it worked once the screens are back.
A computer on both Wi-Fi and Ethernet has a different address on each. Reserve the one for the connection it uses, and keep it on that connection.
On Home Assistant, give the app its new address
Skip this on a Mac or PC. A Home Assistant install tells screens where to load dashboards with
receiver_base_url, and that option does not follow a new address by itself. In the Denframe app's Configuration in Home Assistant, set it to the new address with port 8098, such ashttp://192.168.1.23:8098, save, and restart the app.Cast to Google screens again
Cast screens are not paired, so there is nothing to redo. Denframe on a Mac or PC notices when its network changes, looks for Cast screens again and tries to bring back what each was showing.
If a screen still shows an error or nothing, cast the dashboard again from Home with Cast a look, as in Cast a dashboard. On Home Assistant, cast again once the app has restarted. A screen that is not back on the network yet shows on Home as offline, or as when it was last seen, until it is.
Pair a TV or tablet browser again
The browser keeps its pairing for the address it was opened at, so the new address needs a new pairing. In the TV's browser, open the new address with the screen port and
/panel, for examplehttp://192.168.1.23:8001/panel.The page says Add this display. Choose Pair this display and approve the code in Studio → Access → Add a device, as in Show Denframe in a TV's web browser. Then cast a dashboard to it from Home.
Replace any bookmark or home-screen shortcut on the TV or tablet with the new address.
Connect an Android panel to the new address
A panel that cannot reach the old address says Denframe host unreachable and keeps trying. If the computer has its old address again, the panel reconnects by itself, still paired.
Otherwise the panel has to forget the old address. Factory reset in its Display settings clears its pairing but keeps the address; on a panel that is not a kiosk, press Back afterwards and it returns to Connect to your Denframe host, where you enter the new address. If it doesn't, clear the app's storage: in Android's settings, open Apps, then Denframe Display, then Storage, and clear its storage.
Open Denframe Display. Under Connect to your Denframe host, choose the computer if it is listed, or type its new address with the screen port (for example
192.168.1.23:8001), and choose Connect. Then choose Pair this display and pair it as in Set up an Android wall panel, and cast a dashboard to it.If the list offers only the old address, quit Denframe on the computer and open it again, so it announces the new one, or type the address yourself.
When Denframe is the panel's device owner (a kiosk), Android may not let you clear its storage. Give the computer its old address back instead, or factory-reset the device and set it up again as in Set up an Android wall panel.
Remove the old entries
A display paired again is a new entry. The old one stays in Studio → Access under Wall displays & shared tablets, offline: choose Open screen page on it, then Remove, and confirm with Remove display, as in Remove, re-pair or replace a screen.
The new entry starts with default settings. On its screen page set Resolution, How it is mounted and Whose view it shows, and choose it again in Display automation, Context rules and any screen group that named the old one.
A phone or tablet that opens Denframe from a bookmark needs the new address too; sign in or pair it again there if it asks.
Check it worked
Every screen shows its dashboard, and Wall displays & shared tablets lists each display once, online. Restart the router: with the address reserved, the screens come back by themselves.
If it doesn’t work
The new address does not open on the TV
Check the port (8001 for a desktop install, 8098 on Home Assistant), that the TV and the computer are on the same network, and on Windows that the network is Private.
Casting fails after the change
Quit Denframe and open it again so it starts on the new network, then cast again. On Home Assistant, check receiver_base_url holds the new address.
The panel keeps saying Denframe host unreachable
It is still trying the old address. Give the computer that address back, or choose Factory reset and press Back (or clear the app's storage) and connect it again.
The address changes again later
The reservation did not take. Check it names the connection the computer uses now, Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and restart the computer.
